Two different testing needs

The right test starts
with the right information.

TB screening and drug testing serve different purposes. Bring the written requirement, including any deadlines, so the clinic can review what you need.

01 / TB screening

TB testing

For applicable clinical, school, placement, employment or volunteer requirements. Our team can review your instructions and previous testing records.

TB skin test (TST)

A small injection is placed under the skin of the forearm. A trained healthcare professional reads the reaction 48–72 hours later. The test is not a vaccine.

One-step or two-step?

Some baseline screening requirements call for two-step testing. The second skin test is usually placed 1–4 weeks after the first, when appropriate. Confirm the requirement and full visit schedule with the clinic.

TB blood test (IGRA)

An IGRA is another test for TB infection. Ask whether it is appropriate for you and whether a laboratory requisition or an outside laboratory visit is needed. Availability must be confirmed.

02 / Drug testing enquiries

Drug testing

Contact the clinic to confirm support for your specific employment, workplace or organizational testing requirement before arranging a visit.

Confirm the requested test

Bring the required drug panel, sample type, deadline and instructions from the requesting organization. Do not assume that a general screening test will meet its requirements.

Special collection requirements

If the organization requires chain-of-custody collection, laboratory confirmation, Medical Review Officer review or a U.S. DOT protocol, ask the clinic to confirm whether that exact service can be arranged.

Workplace requirements in Canada

There is no single testing requirement for every Canadian workplace. Testing policies need to account for safety, human rights, privacy and accommodation. Ask your employer for its written instructions.

A little preparation.
A clearer visit.

Bring the complete paperwork so we can review the testing and reporting requirements with you.

  • Identification and health card

Bring valid photo identification and your health card, if applicable. Confirm any identification rules for the requested test.

  • Every page of your testing form

Include the requesting organization’s instructions, required panel or test type, deadline and reporting details.

  • Previous TB records

Bring previous skin or blood test results, chest X-ray reports if available, and details of any BCG vaccination or TB treatment. Tell the clinician about a previous positive test.

  • Your current medication list

Tell the clinician about prescribed medicines and supplements. Do not stop prescribed medication or change your usual fluid intake to prepare for a test unless instructed.

Fees, timing & paperwork

Know what to expect
before you book.

OHIP & private fees

Ontario coverage depends on the reason for testing and your eligibility. TB skin tests for employment or volunteering are generally uninsured. Some eligible medical and educational requirements are covered. Ask about testing and form fees before booking.

Result timelines

A TB skin test needs a reading 48–72 hours after placement. Blood tests, drug testing and additional review follow different timelines. Confirm the expected timing for your specific test rather than relying on a same-day result.

Documents & consent

Ask what documentation can be provided and how results will be shared. Bring any required authorization or reporting form. Confirm that the requesting organization accepts the test and documentation you are arranging.

Call 416-492-9598
Do I need one-step or two-step TB testing?

That depends on your clinical situation and the requesting organization’s screening requirements. Bring the written instructions and any previous records. Two-step testing involves a second skin test when appropriate, with a professional reading after each placement.

What if I previously had a positive TB test?

Tell the clinic before booking and bring the result. Repeat skin testing may not be appropriate. A clinician will review your history and decide what assessment or documentation is needed.

Does a positive TB test mean I have active TB?

A positive skin or blood test needs medical assessment. It does not by itself diagnose active TB disease. Further evaluation may include a symptom review, chest X-ray or other tests, as clinically indicated.

Can I book routine screening if I have TB symptoms?

If you have a persistent cough, fever, night sweats, unexplained weight loss or a known TB exposure, call the clinic before coming in so appropriate assessment and precautions can be arranged. For a medical emergency, call 911.

Which drug panels or collection methods are available?

Contact the clinic with the required drug panel and sample type. Availability, collection arrangements and any laboratory or review services need to be confirmed for your particular request.

Does a drug test prove impairment at work?

A test for drug exposure does not by itself establish current impairment or fitness for a particular job. Interpretation depends on the test and context. Employers should review their policies against applicable human rights and workplace requirements.

Can this visit satisfy an immigration medical exam?

A routine TB or drug test does not replace an immigration medical examination. Canadian immigration medical exams must be completed by an IRCC-approved panel physician. Follow your immigration instructions and check the IRCC requirements.

Is my appointment confirmed after submitting the form?

No. The online form submits a request. The clinic will review availability and contact you to confirm the appointment and any service-specific instructions.
